Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo owners appreciate their key fob's handy remote features. They can lock and unlock their car or start the motor and even locate it via the smartphone app.
Then, place the fob onto an even surface, with the logo side facing upwards. Find the button that releases it, then wedge a coin between the cover and the fob, and pull up carefully.
Unlocking the Door
Volvo's remote key fobs will unlock the tailgate, doors, and fuel filler flap of your vehicle with a press of a button. Hold your key fob with Volvo logo facing upwards to press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button close to the edge of your key fob and gently press it. This will open a protective cover that protects the key blade that is manual. You'll need a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip this cover counterclockwise, so the arrow is aligned with "open."
Start the Engine

You can enable this feature using the key fob if your car has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will be able to cool or heat to the same temperature it was set to while it was parked. It will last for up to 15 minutes.
Remove the back cover of the key fob with your fingernail. A button should be located under the cover at an angle near the body's edge. Slide it downwards and to the right. The cover will be released, and then slide off revealing the manual blade! If you are still unable to locate the button, you can search the newly exposed manual key access to see whether there's a secret slot or lever.
Close the Windows
One of the hidden features on Volvo key fobs is that you are able to lower all windows instantly when you use them. This is a great feature when trying to squeeze into a tight parking space, or just to get fresh air in the cabin while driving.
Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof if you have one. Once you're done with your car, you can close everything by pressing the lock button for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to turn on your car's panic alarm. This will make a loud noise that will draw attention to the car and deter thieves. It will also assist you return home safely when you've been out all night. This feature is helpful if you reside in an area that is dangerous or want to keep your family safe when you are away from home.

Opening the Tailgate
Volvo's key fob is packed with useful features. They are ideal when you have your hands full with shopping or helping your kids pack their sports equipment after practice.
If you have the Hands Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) then you can open it using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button and then close it by pressing the same button.
Use the key fob whenever you are ready to start the vehicle. (Don't worry if your battery is dead or if the car won't start since it also has an electronic key slot). This is just one of the many helpful tips for your new Volvo.

Turning Off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are much more convenient than a mechanical car key. They don't always work perfectly and batteries may fail. You can try to program your key fob at home if you are in a hurry or don't have the time to go to the shop.
Find a smooth surface and lay out your key fob, battery and other keys. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing up, then locate a small black button to the left side of the fob and slide it down and to the right. The cover will fall off and reveal the key blade that is mechanical beneath.
You can open all the doors as well as the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's key twice. By pressing the lock button for two seconds, you can close the windows and sunroof in the event that they're equipped. Connect the battery, and the alarm should cease. If it doesn't, the owners manual should have a way to reset the alarm.
